I was born 1956 and live in Husum with my wife Gabriella and my sons Simon and Zakarias. I also have a daughter, Rebecka who lives in Lund in the southern part of Sweden. Husum is village 30 km north of Örnsköldsvik in northern Sweden (about 600 km north of Stockholm).

As a profession I work as a science and mathematics teacher in a school here in Husum.

I have two big interests that takes a lot of my free time, and that is knife making with scrimshaw and flyfishing for salmon. I’ve had an interest in knives for a long time and it comes quite natural as I both hunt and flyfish, and the knife is a necessary tool in both those activities .

I made my first knife in 1984 with a simple carbon steel blade and a handle of a piece of apple tree. The knife, wasn’t very well made, but for me it was a great satisfaction having made a knife all by my self

First-knife1

My first knife from 1984 is still being used by my father.

1999 I joined a local knifeguild called "Grundsunda Knivgille". Earlier I had always been working alone with my knives, but now I had the benefit of working with other knifemakers and learning more about knifemaking and it was also inspiring to work with my new friends.

From now on my knife making skills improved quickly, and in the summer of 2001 I participated in my first knife competition. It was in Skokloster (just outside Stockholm) and I was awarded for both ( 1:st and 2:nd price). I kept on participating in some competitions from .

sicac

Me at SICAC (the Paris knife show) 2008

2002 till 2004 and won quite a few prices and among them I won "the audiences Price" ( The audience vote for the most beautiful knife in the competition) in the Swedish championship all three years. Since 2005 I have cut down competing and I only participated in Söderhamns knife competition in February, and I won two 1:st prices, "the audiences price" and got the award "knife of the year".In 2007 I sent one knife yo the Swedish championship and that knife won 1:st price , and I was part in the “colaboration knife” that won 1:st price and “the audience price”

Around new year 2001-2002 I tried making scrimshaw for the first time. It was really pleasant and even easier than I had thought . I have been painting in both oil and watercolors, many years ago, and that was probably a help, but I have never been been good at painting or drawing animals. I find that scrimshaw really can decorate a knife, and nowadays most of my knives carry my scrimshaw. I eaven make scrimshaw for other knifemakers

Since 2004 I have been making my own blades, grinding them from a bar of damascus or other steel qualities such as RWL 34 or Sandvik 12C27. Grundsunda Knivgille is now building a blacksmith workshop so in the future I hope to forge my own damascus to.
